I've not played Victoria 2 yet but their games seem comparable to the Europa Universalis series so probably not miles away from Victoria 2. You won't see them on sale at this sort of price so definitely worth picking up even the first tier if you think you might be interested at all. I really enjoy Alea Jacta Est, but I'd been thinking about getting To End All Wars for a while now so this bundle is pretty much a no brainer for me.
On the plus side, once you have learned one it will make learning the other games much easier.
They are however deep games and this bundle would give you a huge number of hours of gaming if you put the time in to learning them. They tend to have a pretty steep learning curve, and I wouldn't exactly call them intuitive. They have their own engine that seems to be used for all their games and has gone through a number of iterations. Ageod (the developer of all these I think) used to be part of Paradox but I believe they split again. If you like grand strategy type games then this bundle seems like a bargain. You have all the time you want to plan, and do your turn but you can´t plan completly secure, because ALL turns are proceeded at the same time (means your units are moving at the same time when AI units are moving) and this is very important for the fun factor! (othwerwise these games would be boring like panzercorps or all the other low level TBS/TBT Battle games. These Game are not even easy to play (UI got better, but is still bad compared to others) and you have to invest a lot of time to learn (read the handbook to learn the mechanics and so on).Ī great+ for me ist the turn based (1turn = 30 days in a normal scenario) aspect of the game.
You will like the board game style grand strategy warfare aspects of the games, or you will not. Paradox games and AGEOD Games are 2 different worlds.ġst of all, all AGEOD games, except Thirty Years War perhaps, have almost no micromanagement and are highly concentrated on the warfare and less on the development of a country (like EU series) or the development of a strong dynasty (like the CK series) they are more like the Hearts of Iron series.Īgain, if you never played an AGEOD Engine Game, grab a demo and spend some time trying to learn the "mechanics" (many mechanics are "hidden" in the ruleset).
